I have been thinking a lot about Jesus the past few days. Yeah, I know- I’m a Christian and should think about Jesus like all the time, right? True, but hang with me here…

Part of it is due to my humble attempts to try and teach my two year old child about Christ. He already has the whole “God loves me and made the whole world” thing down pat. And as extraordinary as that truth is, I continue to be unsatisfied until he gets that Jesus is Savior. Maybe I’m too ambitious to even attempt to explain things like this to such a young mind, but I’m not quitting anytime soon.

Secondly, Matt and I had an awesome opportunity to visit a mosque this past weekend with his Perspectives class to learn from its imam (prayer leader) more about Islam. As he explained their beliefs and discussed God as the all-powerful creator and sustainer of the world, I was thinking to myself, “Right on! I’m totally with ya!” But of course, they reject the idea of Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world and view him as simply a great prophet. It breaks my heart that they are totally missing it.

And then came the conversation I had with a friend at work yesterday. She is fed up with religion because all she knows about religion is following rules, saying the Hail Marys and praying to saints. I, too, would be fed up with that if I lacked the dynamic, life-transforming relationship with Jesus.

So, this holy week, I will continue to bask in the love God has for us through sending His Son, perfect in every way, to die as a sacrifice for my sins. And the real clincher- that Jesus was raised from the dead three days later- gives us, as Christians, an enduring hope. A hope that this life here on earth is not it for us but that we have eternity in Heaven ahead of us.

“Man of sorrows what a name for the Son of God, who came. Ruined sinners to reclaim:
Hallelujah, what a Savior!
