ALERT.

The Birks are back.  (apparently.)

I was in American Eagle today.  Yes, American Eagle.  Like the rest of my middle school, I shopped there when I was thirteen, but I have made my return this century because of this.    Apparently, my Gap jeans are making me look like a mom (uhhh…), so I heeded the advice of the many commenters who suggested that AE jeans are a little less offensive.  So there I was, in the AE dressing room trying on non-mom-jeans when I spotted this.

I immediately texted Matt.  “BIRKS ARE BACK???!!”  And then I googled… could it be?  Could Birkenstocks, the fan favorite and oh-so-comfortable footwear of my middle and high school years, really be back?  My dear friends, my sources point to yes.  Because if Mary-Kate and Ashley are wearing ’em, then the trend must be legit.  Right?  Maybe?  Regardless, I rushed home, dug through my box of “just can’t bear to toss them” shoes that had been shoved under my bed and found not one but three old pairs of Birkenstocks.  Y’all, this is one trend this non-trendy girl can NAIL.  So when you start seeing me rocking my (okay-so-they’re-sorta-ugly) two-strapped Birks soon, feel free to marvel at my ridiculously awesome style.  I promise I won’t let it go to my head.

Other awesome things about life as of late:

  • Sheetz.  Our little town got one, and it’s only ONE MINUTE from our house.  This is a big deal.  We’ve monitored the progress of this Sheetz from its groundbreaking.  Matt and I would send frantic texts back and forth: “the walls are up!”  “they’re putting up the sign AS WE SPEAK!!”  “the Sheetz hummer is there NOW!  It must be soon!”  Really, guys… it doesn’t take much.
  • This album.  Our church recently released Our God is Unstoppable, and it’s been on repeat in our home and cars since it landed in my hands.  It’s really good.  Really, really.  The remake of Praise to the Lord, the Almighty is the current family favorite.  You should get it.  Like, now.
  • Lindsay Lohan’s docuseries.  I kind of loved it.  Okay, judge away.  It’s totally voyeuristic and obviously out to make a buck, but I do appreciate the somewhat-open dialogue about addiction from Lindsay.  Does she always make the best choices?  Nope.  (Nor do I.)  Does she need Jesus?  Yep.  (So do I.)  I just really appreciate second (and third and twelth) chances in life… and grace.  Lots ‘o grace.  (Also, I happen to think she’s really talented.)  (And I really hope they have a Mean Girls reunion one of these days.)
  • And finally, Jennie Allen’s Restless.  Don’t you love how I sandwiched Lindsay Lohan between my church CD and a Bible study?  Sorry guys, but that’s just how I roll.  Good gracious though, I loved this book.  I can’t tell you how many times in the past year I’ve either thought or verbalized a feeling of restlessness.  Jennie put succinct words to my scattered thoughts and helped me continue to pray through and dream about my role in God’s story.  It’s practical and Christ-centered and so good that I think I might just read it again next week.

So there ya have it.  Everything from Birkenstocks to hymns to Lindsay.  You’re welcome.
