Don’t tell my husband, but I am secretly sorta kinda excited that the first Virginia Tech football game is this Saturday. He has been eagerly awaiting this day since, well, the final game last season. I am not a huge football fan (though it beats the drawn out baseball season a million times over), but I do like what football season represents. The beginning of fall. This year, fall will bring with it the much anticipated arrival of our baby girl. Clearly, nothing can top that… but lest we not forget…

  • Candy corn. Yes, my friends, it is out in the stores already. And I have already indulged myself in a whole bag (in like three days flat). I give it another month before I’m so sick of the overly sweet goodness of those cute little pumpkins that I swear it off for another year. You’d think I’d learn by now.
  • Pumpkin. Pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin candles. Just no more pumpkin ravioli, as I learned the hard way last year.
  • Jeans and sweater weather. I really feel like we jumped straight from snow boots to bathing suits this year, and I really am craving that chilly-but-not-too-cold air.
  • School supplies. So, I’m not in school anymore, but I still love to wander through the school supply section of the stores. I got so excited for Matt last week on his first day back at school… it almost made me miss the world of academia. But not really. He’s no fun, though. Whereas I would always delight in writing my first page of notes in my new color-coded notebooks with my specially appointed pens, he just does everything in his laptop. Technology has taken away all of the magic of going back to school.

Saying goodbye to summer is always bittersweet, but this year it just seems a little sweeter to me than usual.

So, back to football… just in case you’re wondering who I’m pulling for…
Let’s go Hokies!
Let’s go Tribe! (pleeeease beat UVA!!!!)
and Let’s go Spiders! (sorry, Duke)
