Well, I happened to notice that my last post was my 666th post which kinda freaked me out, so let me quickly add on a 667th one to calm me down a bit.

And brace yourself because this is about as superficial as they come. You’ve been warned…

Okay, so here’s the deal. I’m having major shoe dilemmas. Not for me… for my not-even-two-year-old daughter. The problem? I can’t find her any shoes that I like!! Hold up, I take that back. I am perfectly capable of picking out nicer shoes, but when it comes to non-sandalish play shoes, I’m stuck. And I need to quickly become unstuck because I have 27 days before she starts daycare where she has to wear tennis shoes. It’s in the rule book. And I’m an anal rule follower. So help me out…

For some reason, I have this moral opposition to putting Mary Grace in traditional, lace up tennis shoes. Can’t do it. Call me superficial… I probably am. Anyway, I’ve scoured the internet for cute options for closed toed play shoes but am left completely irrationally frustrated and stressed. I do love these Keds mary janes (which come in red, navy, white, and floral) but am having some trouble finding them in her size online. I might try the local Stride Rite outlet tomorrow, though. But aside from these Keds, I need other options. Help me please! I’m looking for a classic, cute tennis shoe. For a reasonable price. No neon colors or flashing lights, please. And sweet goodness, no Dora.

In racking my brain, I have conjured up vivid memories of my many years wearing these old school Tretorns. I feel as though I must have had twenty pairs of these in various colors throughout my elementary school years. Shockingly (to me at least), Google confirmed for me today that these are still out there in the stores! A small part of me almost wants to get Mary Grace her own pair of Tretorns as a nod to my childhood. And they are simple and classic. But too boring? Maybe.

Now’s your chance, guys. I need your help. Throw out your suggestions. All of them. Or else Mary Grace might miss out on the world of daycare due to her mom’s inability to settle on a pair of shoes.

Ohmygoodness, I am so very pitiful…

  1. What about LL Bean? They always have adorable kids stuff. And they'll let you return ANYTHING if it doesn't meet your standards. Might also try REI deal of the day. They have some amazing deals, like kids shoes for $9.

  2. those white tretorns will be a bear to keep clean. i vote for some red and some blue and maybe some little pinks……

  3. We put Punky in red keds…they were precious with all of her little dresses. Red is always a great neutral. I also had little velcro almost dressy mary janes. What size is MG? I could always deliver Punky's hand-me downs to your mom's house..

  4. for the summer at least I got Lilly some Natives and they are SUPER cute! tennis shoes/chucks but w/the rubber of crocs. perfect for summer (since they have the holes) and lilly's older cousins wear them with thin socks…they were only sold in canada for awhile but now i know they have them at nordstroms…and i recently saw a picture of jennifer garner's children wearing them too. 😛 also – the person who suggested TOMS – those are SUPER cute too!!! otherwise – i really liked pumas (they're cute, velcro and a good tennis shoe) and sometimes you can find them at famous footwear for much less than department store prices.
